Our Father, who art in heaven.

and lead us not into temptation,

WHO ARE CHRISTIANS?

We are one family who follow the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who for us is God’s Son and reveals God’s love for us as witnessed in the Gospels

We believe in ONE GOD.

We believe in a God, who is eternal, who created the world. This is God the Father.

We believe in a God, born as a baby called Jesus.

This Jesus grew up to be a prophet, who was sentenced to death on a cross.

Three days later Jesus came back to life, and was seen by his followers, who spoke with him and ate with him.

Jesus was then taken up into heaven to be reunited with God the Father.

This is God the Son.

We believe in a God who in truth brings wisdom to people and inspires their lives.

This is God the Holy Spirit.

Christians speak many languages, and are from many ethnic and cultural backgrounds, but we worship one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We worship in many churches and buildings throughout Slough, every day of the week, but especially on a Sunday.

All are welcome to pop into any church and find out more.

Sessions with Mr. Abdullah Rahim

You met Mr. Abdullah Rahim at Faith Anchor (PWA) last year.

He is going to be with us again during the Interfaith Week in Nov 09. On 21st Nov Sat he will be at the Kingsway Church High Street, Slough (Church Street-opposite M&S) from 12pm to 5pm and the same evening at Holiday Inn,Slough & Windsor (At the Round about before M4 near Chalvey) Restaurant Area (7pm to 10 pm). He will also join us at the Walk to Talk from Salt-hill Park to Stoke Poges Mosque next day Sunday 22nd. You may come and meet him, discuss about various aspects of Islam and other Religions and ask Questions.

Following is his brief introduction:

Abdullah Rahim is an Associate Fellow of Al-Mawrid Foundation for Islamic Research and Education. He is also the president of Understanding Islam organisation in the UK.

Abdullah began his studies in Islam by attending an Islamic Seminary on a part time basis for six years from 1985. From 2003 onwards Abdullah has had the advantage of having Moiz Amjad, a Scholar and a student of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi, as his tutor and mentor for studying Islam. Since 2008, Abdullah has continued his study and research on Islam under the guidance of Javed Ahmad Ghamidi. He is carrying out a number of research projects for Al-Mawrid, while answering religious questions at the Al-Mawrid and the Understanding-Islam websites and doing online teaching at the Studying Islam website. His writings also appear in the monthly Islamic Journal of Renaissance. Abdullah runs and delivers Quran study sessions, lectures and workshops in Glasgow and Manchester.

Abdullah’s main areas of interest are Interpretation of the Qur’an, Study of Hadith (Takhreej) and Islamic Intrafaith Studies. He also has a BSc and an MSc in Systems Engineering and a PhD in Organisational Analysis which forms his formal occupation as a university lecturer in Glasgow. Abdullah has recently started a second PhD at the University of Glasgow on the subject of The Relationship between the Qur’an and the Hadith.

Al-Mawrid

A Foundation for Islamic Research and Education

As a legatee of the rich intellectual tradition in Muslim history, al-Mawrid is a unique institution of learning. A deep concern over the dearth of suitable approaches to Islamic learning in our times gave birth to this institution at the dawn of the Fifteenth Century Anno Higerae (AH). [1] Lost in the maze of sectarian prejudices and political wrangling, the true message of Islam, based on the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah, has become alien to the Muslims. The Qur’an, which is the foundation of this religion, is rarely approached for purposes other than oral delivery or rote learning. In the madrasas, those disciplines of learning that were at best a possible means to understanding the Qur’an have become an end in themselves. The Hadith has been isolated from its foundations in the Qur’an and the Sunnah, and the primary focus now is on the foundational principles and the emanating discourses of a particular school of thought and on the polemics to establish their superiority over those of others.

As an institution, al-Mawrid is a name that symbolizes the effort to redress this problem. Therefore, the basic objective of this institution is facilitation and perpetuation of explanatory and research work on the true understanding of Islam, the publication and mass communication of this understanding through all possible means, and augmentation of people’s knowledge and education through its dissemination.

Following are the salient features of the modus operandi to achieve this objective:

Well-accomplished researchers and scholars with a sound understanding of religion be attached to al-Mawrid where they do research or academic work either on the basis of assignments given by the institution or on the basis of their own proposals
True understanding of Islam be spread throughout the world through the latest means of mass communication
The general exhortation and admonition of the Qur’an and its approach towards the purification of thought and deeds be converted into such movement as attracts the intelligentsia of the nation to be affiliated with this mission
People be motivated to set up, wherever possible:
1. institutions of Islamic learning to produce religious scholars and researchers with a true vision and understanding of Islam
2. schools (up to the intermediate/A levels) to provide students with high quality education and training in an environment where their creativity is encouraged and due attention is given to developing a sound awareness of their religious and cultural heritage
3. weekend schools to provide students from other schools with instruction in the Qur’an through the Qur’an itself in such manner as enables them to remain committed to their religion from the depth of heart, mind and soul in their later years
4. religious and spiritual sanctuaries where people can find a break from their worldly and mundane routines to benefit from the company of scholars and pious people, learn religion from them, and focus on worship and prayer to purge their hearts and minds

The administration of al-Mawrid is in the hands of its Board of Governors. The administrative system is founded on democratic principles. The President of the institution serves as the academic and intellectual patron, and the Secretary General as its administrative head.

Al-Mawrid is a Non-governmental Organization (NGO) that is registered as a non-profit enterprise under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Donations to this institution are exempt from income tax in Pakistan, and the institution accepts contributions from all those who agree with its objectives.
